In my Rehabilitative Massage practice I have seen far too many student athletes deal with a wide range of injuries that put them out of action for a game, a few weeks and even a whole season.

A major component of these injuries were due to extremely tight muscles. With massage and detailed foam rolling training from me, these student athletes achieved a more functional and flexible muscle group which allowed them to return to training and competing.

Most of these Student Athletes I worked with already had a foam roller had tried foam rolling.  I asked them to show me how they were using those rollers and 9 out of 10 times, these athletes were using this self care tool in a very basic way that was doing little to improve their muscle function.

It is not their fault at all! Where do most people learn how to use a foam roller?  Maybe a YouTube video here and there, perhaps by watching someone else in the gym or maybe the printed instructions that came with the roller.

The way I approach and teach foam rolling is from a unique perspective. I teach foam rolling techniques based from the skills and knowledge of a Sports and NeuroMuscular Massage Therapist, with over 14 years experience working with professional and collegiate athletes. I showed these students how to use the foam roller using my techniques and most of them were blown away by how much more efficiently and deeper they could work their muscles.

If someone tells me that they’ve foam rolled before and it didn’t help, then I know that they just need training in how to use their roller to the fullest extent.

In Advanced You Will:

  • Get 2 videos that help you put it all together.  Practice with Brian as he does the Advanced Lower Body Routine and the Advanced Upper Body Routine.
  • Receive further anatomy education so that you can activate your muscles to gain the most benefit out of your time foam rolling.
  • You are there.  This is now your daily self care routine, which is like getting a full body deep tissue massage every day!

We'd Like to Tell You About One of Brian's High School Cheer Clients

We helped her but we'd like to help you BEFORE you experience an injury.

This senior high school student had been in the cheer team for the past 2 years.

She LOVED being part of the team.

But, she was in a lot of pain.

Her sacrum hurt, her shoulders hurt and her entire back hurt.

Her parents brought her to doctor after doctor with no long term solution. The family was frustrated and worried. The high school student was scared that she would have to give up cheer for good.

Some of the comments they heard where:

  • Was she just being an overly dramatic teen?
  • Sore muscles are common because she is working out so much.
  • Someone this young really shouldn’t be complaining so much, after all she was only in cheer, which is not a contact sport like football.

When this student athlete saw Brian he found that her muscles were incredibly tight. Just touching her shoulders made her wince. He asked her if she was doing any foam rolling or self care, and she replied they stretched at practice.

During their first few sessions together Brian showed her how to use the foam roller with the same techniques found in the Ultimate Foam Roller Blueprint©. She was amazed at how well it worked her muscles.

This teen needed more rehab help than massage and foam rolling. She worked with a skilled Physical Therapist too. After 6 months of focused massage, PT and daily foam rolling at home she is back to participating in cheer competitions.

This student’s mom was so relived to have found Brian, who was able to offer help but also offer something that her student could do at home to support the rehab process.

If this student had started the Ultimate Foam Roller Blueprint© for High School and Collegiate Students when she first began cheer or when she first started to feel sore, achy muscles, she may have skipped 6 months of pain, searching for answers and hefty doctor/rehab bills. With consistent foam rolling her muscles would have been more healthy and flexible. She also would have been a more informed, stronger self advocate who would have known when her pain was not “normal” anymore.

This is Brian's Story...

​"My body was hurting.  A​LL OVER.  I didn’t want to see another client because I was in such pain.  

My muscles were so tight and sore I felt like I was 110 years old.

I was seeing clients and massaging their tight muscles while mine were in​ just as much pain, if not more.

 Honestly, I was in so much pain that I had to quit.  I closed my thriving massage practice that I had since 2004.  

That is when I decided I needed to take self care seriously and I started to foam roll regularly at home.  Every morning and every night I would work my muscles with my roller.

What I realized was that the way I was using my roller was pretty limited.  I couldn’t get deep into my muscles like the way I wanted to.  

That is when I started to use my experience from 10 years in the sports massage field to make the foam roller do what a Rehabilitative Massage Therapist would do.  During this time I developed the techniques to effectively get the foam roller deeper into my muscles and with consistent foam rolling my muscles felt better.
* I was not in constant pain.  
* I had regained my flexibility.
* I was ready to get back to doing what I loved doing.

I was ready to open my practice again, and I did!

This time, I taught my sports massage clients the foam rolling techniques that I had developed and you know what, it helped them tremendously!  They were able to continue doing what they loved, which was their sport.

In time I knew I had to share these techniques with others, so my wife and I worked together to  develop The Ultimate Foam Rolling Blue Print.

About Brian & Christina

Brian and Christina Hagan, ​were the first couple to graduate together from the Colorado Institute of Massage Therapy in 2004. ​

Brian Hagan, LMBT started the rehabilitative massage program at Raleigh Orthopedic’s Sports program, where he worked from 2006 – 20012.  Brian was the official massage therapist for the Carolina Hurricanes Hockey Team between 2007-2013.
He has worked with the NC State Athletics Department from 2006 – present.  He currently sees many professional and semi-professional athletes at his office, HealthySteps for Sports and NeuroMuscular Massage.

​Brian's Super Power is knowing how muscles work, and how to approach muscles in a unique and effective way to get out tight band, muscle adhesions and scar tissue to bring about a healthier muscle that works fluidly.

Christina Hagan, LMBT is also ​is a NeuroMusclar ​Massage Therapist.  She is trained in Manual Lymph Drainage by The Chikly Health Institute and The Academy of Lymphatic Studies. She provides Manual Lymph Drainage to athletes, post-surgery clients and clients with compromised lymph systems at their office, HealthySteps. Christina is a Fully Certified C.A.R.E. Instructor and has been teaching nationally ​with C.A.R.E since 2006.  ​Christina holds a Masters in Education and taught as a Special Ed. Teacher for 12 years.
